If you have 6 minutes I would encourage you to watch this clip by Shaun Groves. He wrote a song called Kingdom Come that was released on Election Day 2009. It's one of the most powerful songs I've heard in a long time. Check out this little video where he speaks on the Good News taught by Jesus in the first chapter of the gospel of Mark. Snow Day!

Well, we had a bit more snow than initially anticipated!
The CUWF meeting for tonight has been postponed. Instead we will meet Next Tuesday, Feb. 10th, 2009 at 7:00pm. Hopefully we'll actually make it this time!

Did you make a 'new years resolution' this year? If so, how are you coming?
One of my goals for '09 has been to be more organized. My office is finally organized (it's even more surprising that it's stayed that way) my work schedules however are a completely different story. It seems that all I've done the last three or four weeks has been work or sleep. So regaining control over my time and being able to arrange hours so that I still have time for other things that, while may not earn me a paycheck...are certainly just as important.
As good as my intentions are however, sometimes life is just crazy. Especially when it snows!
Even though we weren't exactly prepared to handle all the work involved in removing snow and applying salt to our customer properties from Indianapolis to Louisville...God knew what was coming. Here's a passage I read this morning that has kept me sane throughout the craziness of my day.

"I will sing of your strength: in the morning I will sing of your love. For you are my fortress, my refuge" PS. 59:16

I realized that over the last few weeks as I have juggled two jobs, school and the ever mounting pile of homework I haven't exactly been "singing". Complaining is more like it!

We know that Christ and his power inhabit our praises, he said so himself. So this verse makes me wonder if my day would go better if I praised more than grumbled. Even when the craziness of life crashes down around me, I still have reason to sing...He is my fortress and my strength.

Thank God for that! Sometimes my days, like yours, are way beyond my strength. but they aren't beyond His!

Perfection Isn't Everything

Often I find I struggle with 'perfectionism'....the desire to be and do everything perfectly...all the time. As I've gotten older I have learned how to combat this way of thinking and change it...sometimes though I need a reminder that doing my best (even when that's not 'perfect') is always more than enough.
I had planned, for example, a much longer, more 'perfect' post today but since Monday night I haven't had more than 5 hours of sleep and have been working constantly because of the snow and ice we've had here in other parts of the state. So instead of not posting because the one I'd planned on it's done...I'm going to leave you with a quote to think about instead :-)

It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of good deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly..who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat. Perhaps a need to be perfect isn't something you struggle with. But if it is, I hope you'll remember that nothing you do (or don't do) can make God love you any more or less. You can't earn love you've already been given! I hope you'll remember that it's okay to 'just' be you...that's more than enough!

This is what I'm listening to this morning and I wanted to share it with you so I pulled up Youtube and found the video. I don't care for the graphics much, but you can just ignore that and listen to the words.

All our trials and burdens pale in comparison to what we know is coming. It's never a question of 'if God will pull through for me' but a question of whether you believe he will or not. Whatever you're going through today I hope you'll set your mind on the truths in this song and meditate on the matchless love, grace, power and ability of our Amazing Father. Rejoice in his coming...both in your circumstances today and his bodily return.

It's hard to believe that November is over already! I just wanted to put this out here in case there is any confusion...just because we aren't meeting in December doesn't mean you should stop with your study. In January we will cover what we studied in December in addition to new material :-)
